Tokyo police hold terrorism drill in preparation for G-7 summit, Olympics

Tokyo police held an anti-terrorism drill Monday in preparation for the 2016 Group of Seven summit in Mie Prefecture and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

At Nippon Budokan Hall in Adachi Ward, some 150 people, including members of the department’s riot police and officers from stations across the metropolis, took part in a mock terrorist attack on a large-scale facility.

The exercise consisted of a scenario in which officers and dogs detect a possible explosive device during a patrol of the facility.

Although Shima, Mie Prefecture, will host the 2016 G-7 summit, Tokyo police will have to be on high alert for terrorists targeting the capital. Also, some Tokyo riot police will be dispatched to Mie Prefecture.
