SoftBank Corp. said Monday it posted a record group net profit for the fifth consecutive year last fiscal year and its top executive described a former Google Inc. executive as a possible successor to run the Japanese telecom giant in future.

SoftBank's group net profit surged 28.5 percent from a year earlier to a record ¥668.36 billion in the fiscal year that ended March.

Its consolidated sales soared 30.1 percent to ¥8.67 trillion on the back of robust revenue from mobile communication and game subscriptions in Japan.
