Three employees of a nursing home in Nagoya have been arrested on suspicion of physically abusing a 93-year-old female resident and taking a video of their act with a mobile phone, police have said.

Kazuki Yokoi, 36, Hirofumi Monobe, 29, and Keita Suzuki, 26, all residents of Nagoya and employees at Kea Homu Himawari (Care Home Sunflower), had been arrested by Tuesday, the Moriyama branch of the Aichi Prefectural Police said.

According to the police, the three are suspected of abusing the woman, who lived in the facility, by plugging her nose and poking fingers in her mouth, at around 8 p.m. on Feb. 21. The woman was not injured, the police said.

Yokoi and Suzuki have admitted to the assault charges, while Monobe has denied involvement, saying he was not at the scene when the alleged abuse took place.

The incident came to light through an investigation on a separate case, in which a teenage girl had complained in early February that Yokoi had been harassing her. As investigators examined his mobile phone for evidence, they found a video of the physical abuse against the elderly woman.

The mobile phone also contained a picture of a naked male resident at the nursing home, police said, adding that they are now investigating whether the suspects have abused others.

According to the Nagoya Municipal Government, the nursing home was not properly registered with the city and had received orders from the city to rectify the situation.
