British airline Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. flew its final flight from Tokyo Narita to London's Heathrow Airport on Sunday, ending 25 years of service.
The airline is pulling the plug on Narita-London as it shakes up its route map worldwide. Its Tokyo office ended operations the same day.
Virgin Atlantic established a branch in Japan in 1988 and began flying to Narita from London's Gatwick Airport in May 1989.
Air travel enthusiasts gathered at a check-in counter at Narita airport on Sunday to take photographs, while staff distributed stickers bearing words of gratitude for customers' support during its years of operation in Japan.
Masakazu Chiyo, 41, said: "I became interested in airplanes in general after seeing Virgin Atlantic aircraft 13 years ago. Their color was so cool."
