The Tokyo Metropolitan government said Tuesday that it and Tokyo Metro Co. will make a free Wi-Fi wireless communications service available at 143 subway stations in Tokyo on Monday.
Chosen from a total of 106 stations of the Tokyo government’s subway system and 179 Tokyo Metro stations, the 143 stations are believed to be most used by visitors to Japan, according to the metropolitan government.
Tokyo Gov. Yoichi Masuzoe said he wants Wi-Fi to be accessible everywhere in the capital in the future, expressing his intention to improve communications infrastructure by the time of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Free Wi-Fi is already available on buses operated by the metropolitan government.
