YOKOHAMA – Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says his administration will submit a bill aimed at revitalizing regional economies during the extraordinary session of the Diet this fall.
The administration will submit the first in a series of bills related to regional revitalization to the extra parliamentary session to speed up efforts to help regional economies, Abe said in a speech Sunday in Yokohama.
The plan is part of an administration initiative to address the falling population in rural areas.
Abe will set up a preparatory office as early as this week for a regional revitalization task force he plans to chair.
One legislative initiative will likely be to amend the law to help smaller businesses get more government procurement orders.
Abe has signaled his intention of assisting local ventures that aim to win public orders.
