TPP chief negotiators to meet July 3

Chief negotiators from 12 countries will meet in Vancouver, Canada, from July 3 to 12 for further talks on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact, sources said Thursday.

The meeting is considered a crucial opportunity for the 12 countries, including Japan and the United States, to reach some kind of agreement on free trade before the U.S. turns its focus to midterm elections in November, a Japanese official said.

The U.S. is having difficulty compromising on sensitive issues such as intellectual property protection and regulations on state enterprises in the run-up to the election.
