Sony Corp. urged consumers Friday to stop using some models of its Vaio Fit 11A computer released in February due to possible battery overheating that could cause burns.

Subject to the request are the models SVF11N19EJS, SVF11N1A1J and SVF11N1BAJ. The company is now identifying the products' serial numbers.

The Japanese electronics maker said it is considering repairing or replacing the affected PCs free of charge or refunding the purchase price.

Sony asked consumers to shut down and unplug the PCs, and discontinue their use.

The firm, no stranger to battery problems, has already halted shipments of the models.

Between March 19 and April 8, overheating in the battery pack melted three of the PC models in Japan, Hong Kong and mainland China.
