Abe visits Kamaishi residents, school

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday visited Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture, which was hit by the tsunami triggered by the March 2011 earthquake.

He inspected temporary housing for people who lost their homes in the disaster and public housing built quickly by the private sector.

“We will speed up the construction of public housing, so take care,” he told residents.

Abe then moved on to Kamaishi Police Station and laid flowers for three officers who died in the disasters.

Later in the day, Abe was to visit a junior high school to see how students are instructed to avoid tsunami damage.

Abe has been visiting areas hit by the March 2011 disasters almost every month since he took office nearly a year ago. This was his third visit to Iwate.
