Corporate demand for loans picks up

Corporate demand for bank loans has turned positive for the first time in two quarters, a Bank of Japan survey showed Tuesday.

In the October survey, the diffusion index on changes in corporate loan demand over the past three months rose to plus 4 from minus 2 in the July survey, scoring the first plus figure since April, the BOJ said.

However, at plus 4 the figure was below the plus 5 that was posted in April.

The DI is the percentage of banks seeing stronger loan demand minus that of banks seeing weaker demand.
