Isetan Mitsukoshi to launch small stores

JIJI

Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. plans to launch a chain of small, community-based stores in September that will mainly target fashion-conscious women.

The major department store chain hopes customers will find it easy to use its new Mi Plaza outlets, which will chiefly deal in sundries and food, the company said Friday.

Isetan Mitsukoshi plans to open the first store in the western Tokyo suburb of Ome on Sept. 4 and the second in Sendai on Oct. 10.

The company aims to more than double its total of Mi Plaza stores, Isetan Mirror luxury cosmetic shops and other small outlets to 150 by fiscal 2015.
