BAGHDAD – Bomb attacks against the Iraqi Army in the country’s north killed 12 people Monday, most of them soldiers, according to officers.
A suicide car bomber attacked an army patrol in Mosul, killing 12 people and wounding 16, while a roadside bomb wounded a soldier and a civilian near the city.
Security forces are frequently targeted by militants opposed to the Iraqi government. The attacks came after gunmen assaulted two prisons in a bid to free inmates Sunday night, killing 12 members of the security forces in clashes that raged all night.
Eighteen people were killed in other violence Sunday.
