The government and Japan Post Co. are expected to help Myanmar modernize its postal system to improve its services, sources said.

Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Yoshitaka Shindo and Myanmar Communications and Information Technology Minister Myat Hein are expected to confirm the cooperation in a meeting in Japan this week, they said.

Japan is expected to help Myanmar introduce automatic postal code-reading and sorting machines in a bid to improve delivery efficiency and bolster its mail distribution network. Lost mail is a typical problem in developing and emerging countries.
