Toyota to check for stolen car navs

Toyota Motor Corp. has introduced a system at its dealerships to check whether used car navigation devices were stolen, the first such system among Japanese automakers.

Car navigation devices sold with Toyota vehicles can’t be used on other vehicles unless their passwords are invalidated at dealerships.

Upon request for the password-refreshing process, Toyota dealerships will now check the serial numbers of used navigation devices against those on a list of stolen products updated daily by the National Police Agency.
