Briton charged in French murder

French authorities on Wednesday charged a 32-year-old British man with the brutal killing of a mother of three who was stabbed to death while out jogging.

Robert Plant was formally charged with aggravated murder, the French equivalent of first-degree homicide, after appearing before an examining magistrate in the southern city of Nimes. The magistrate said the prosecution’s case would be that the murder had been the result of an attempted sexual assault that went wrong.

Plant lived with his mother, Esther, 300 meters from where the woman’s partly clothed body was found on Jan. 24.
