KHI to make machine parts in Brazil

JIJI

Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. is looking to build a construction parts plant in Brazil within three years, KHI President Satoshi Hasegawa said.

The plant is likely to make pumps for hydraulic shovels and other machinery parts as infrastructure construction picks up in the South American country ahead of the World Cup soccer finals in 2014 and the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.

Hasegawa said Kawasaki Heavy has gone too far in focusing its machinery parts investment on China, adding KHI “wants to avert risks from overconcentration” by expanding into Brazil and India, where it recently set up a production base.
