Dec. 26 session to name new leader

The Democratic Party of Japan-led government is looking to schedule an extraordinary Diet session Dec. 26 to elect the next prime minister, sources said Wednesday.

The session, which will follow the Lower House election Sunday, is expected to last three days. The poll to pick the new prime minister would take place on the first day.

The current Cabinet of Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will determine the schedule for the next extraordinary session because his Cabinet will remain in place until the next one is launched.
