Fukushima Prefecture on hiring spree

Fukushima Prefecture said Tuesday it will hire a record 343 new employees for fiscal 2013.

Of the total, the prefecture will hire 295 new university graduates, more than double the 127 in the previous year.

The prefecture had slashed employment as part of its administrative reform measures, but now sees the need to boost new hiring to cope with a surging workload related to reconstruction after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami last year and the subsequent nuclear crisis at Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s Fukushima No. 1 power plant.
