PARIS – Nobel literature laureate Kenzaburo Oe and 21 other Japanese writers have been invited to attend the Salon du Livre, France’s largest book fair, this March in Paris, the organizer said Wednesday.
The writers will take part in a number of events at the March 16-19 fair, which will make Japanese literature “the guest of honor” for a second time. The first time was in 1997.
Since the event will come shortly after the first anniversary of the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami, lecture and debate sessions focusing on the disaster and ensuing nuclear crisis at Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s Fukushima No. 1 power plant are being arranged.
Other invitees include manga artist Moto Hagio, poet Madoka Mayuzumi, critic Hiroki Azuma and reporter Satoshi Kamata as well as such novelists as Kaori Ekuni, Keiichiro Hirano, Masahiko Shimada and Risa Wataya.
