It's Trocks time again, as that madcap melange of comedy and classical ballet trucks into Tokyo this weekend at the start of a monthlong nationwide tour — the troupe's 28th to Japan over more than 30 years.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, to give the New York-based company its full name — though it's just "Trocks" to fans — is an all-male ensemble founded in 1974 by ballet enthusiasts committed to presenting playful, entertaining classical pieces and modern dance faithfully rendered "in parody form and en travesti."

In more than four decades since then, the company has performed in around 600 cities in more than 34 countries — with the longevity and success down to the talent and training of its men in pointe shoes who really know what they're doing.
