Kirirom Institute of Technology Launching “International Leaders Hospitality Management” Degree Program on April 2019
Kirirom Institute of Technology (KIT), located in Cambodia, will be launching International Leaders Hospitality Management (ILHM) Degree on April 2019 to train students to become a world scale player in the hospitality industry that includes world tourism, hotel and restaurants.
Number of inbound foreign visitors to Japan is increasing and expected to accelerate with the Tokyo Olympic in 2020 and Osaka Expo in 2025. Foreign visitors to Japan have more than tripled in five years growing from 8.4 million visitors in 2012 to 28.4 million in 2017. Rapid growth will continue with 40 million visitors forecasted in 2020. However, there is expected to be a huge shortage of highly skilled hospitality resources who are capable of delivering good service to the foreign visitors. Shortage of important skills include providing service in English, incorporating digital innovation and trending technologies to the hospitality industry as part of Industrial Revolution 4.0, and designing innovative customer experiences.
Based on these needs, this degree is designed to train students to become capable of working globally and not just in Japan. This leading degree is characterized by focus on immersive English, disruptive technologies changing the service industry, real-world global internships and leadership skills.
This degree consists of 4 years of both academic learning and real-world experiences through internships to prepare the students to become manager candidates in the near future. The classes are conducted all in English and designed for non-native English speakers. Graduates from this degree will aim to become “manager candidate at global hotel/hospitality facilities” or “entrepreneurs in hospitality related business and management”. Part of the curriculum consists of internship at vKirirom Pine Resort located alongside KIT and designing and building tourism/hospitality related IT services by themselves. They will also learn and do daily operations of the resort as well as help drive digital marketing for the resort. Student will complete half year internships each year (total of 2 years) at resort/tourism/hospitality facilities at both inside and outside of Cambodia to gain global working experience.
The 2019 class is open to 40 students from Japan, Cambodia and Malaysia.
