Next Educational Environment Development (NEED), has announced that the founding headmaster of Jinseki International School, the first elementary full boarding school in Japan, will be Mr. Nicholas James Gunn.
Mr. Gunn has been closely involved in “Article 1 Schools” (schools recognized by the Japanese government under Article 1 of the School Education Act) and international schools in Japan for more than half of his 25-year career in education.

He is enthusiastic about his appointment: “I feel that it is a huge honor as well as a wonderful opportunity for me to become the founding headmaster of Jinseki International School, which will be unique in Japan as its first elementary full boarding school.
“I am convinced that Jinseki will offer the finest education to all students within a unique learning environment.
“As an international boarding school, we are determined to offer the highest-level of pastoral care in a family atmosphere befitting a second home for everyone studying there. Through a broad and deep bilingual curriculum, children will acquire a high level of international awareness by mastering spoken and written Japanese and English, and eventually move on from here as young people who, while being modest, are full of confidence and ready to study at leading schools throughout the world.”
Prior to the scheduled opening of Jinseki International School in April 2020, Mr. Gunn is to work in Jinsekikogen-cho, Hiroshima Prefecture and start full-scale operation of school business.

Profile of Mr. Nicholas James Gunn

Educated at boarding school and university in the UK, Mr. Gunn has worked in education for more than 25 years, serving as deputy headmaster at Lancing Prep (The Broadwater Manor School) from 2005 to 2008, as senior deputy headmaster at Makuhari International School from 2008 to 2016, and as headmaster at King’s College Doha from 2016 to 2019.
