Exploring Solutions in Nutrition, Fermentation Technology, and Circular Economy for Sustainable Community Well-Being

Space Seed Holdings Inc. (Headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kengo Suzuki) conducted an official visit to Nurul Iman Educational Foundation, one of the largest educational institutions in Indonesia, to explore collaboration opportunities in nutritional improvement, fermentation technology applications, and the development of circular economy models.

The meeting was attended by key figures including Ms. Umi Waheedah (Chairperson, Nurul Iman Foundation), Dr. Dripa Sjabana (Chair of the Bahrain–Indonesia Bilateral Committee), Mr. Ozy F.Sjarindra(XAMRUD), Mr. Ananda Setiyo Ivannanto (AWINA), Mr. Kengo Suzuki (CEO, Space Seed Holdings), and Mr. Ryuto Fukuda (Space Seed Holdings).

■ Key Discussion Points
1. Tackling Child Nutrition and Stunting
The foundation utilizes its own chili, ginger, and corn farms to prepare and serve daily meals for over 15,000 students. The model includes using corn to supplement vitamins and offering meat once a week to help prevent stunting.

To strengthen this approach, discussions were held around leveraging the Indonesian government’s free school meal initiative. Space Seed Holdings also proposed fermentation-enhanced food supplements using rice koji and lactic acid bacteria to improve nutritional value, preservation, and supply consistency.

2. Creating High-Value Products Through Fermentation and Global Outreach
The foundation has already begun roasting garlic and chili for value-added local products. Looking ahead, they aim to expand into international markets, including Japan.

Space Seed Holdings introduced fermentation using koji, yeast, and lactic acid bacteria, which can enhance flavor and reduce pungency—potentially creating chili products better suited for Japanese consumers.

3. Integrating Circular Economy Models into Education and Regional Revitalization
With over 65 businesses across agriculture, aquaculture, food processing, energy, and waste pyrolysis, Nurul Iman Foundation runs a self-sustaining circular resource model. These operations also serve as educational platforms for students, promoting the development of circular economy–oriented human resources and contributing to local economic independence.

■ Looking Ahead
The next phase will involve identifying joint research themes and practical demonstration models in the areas of nutrition, fermentation, energy, and education to move toward real-world implementation.
