"Lunar Brewery" Beta Launches on Urth Inc.'s Metaverse Platform 'metatell'
Space Seed Holdings Inc. has begun operating a beta version of “Lunar Brewery – Lunar Sake Brewery” on the metaverse space, utilizing the metaverse service “metatell” of Urth Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hiroki Tanaka). The “Lunar Brewery” was designed and operated by Tano Atelier, a first-class architect office, based on the model of Tsunan Sake Brewery, that produces Japanese sake.

Back ground
Space Seed Holdings joined the “SPACE FOODSPHERE” program conducted by the General Incorporated Association SPACE FOODSPHERE in April 2024. Since then, the company has been promoting research and business development related to the “completely resource-circulating and ultra-high-efficiency food supply system” on both Earth and in space.

Fermentation technology has been used on Earth since ancient times to enhance the nutritional value and improve the preservation of food using limited resources. Considering the unique constraints of the space environment—such as microgravity, high levels of radiation, and confined spaces—effectively designing these fermentation processes could significantly improve material circulation and enhance the diversity and quality of space food. In the long term, fermentation technology may contribute to improving the quality of life (QOL) for those living in space, supporting their health and facilitating long-duration space missions.
Based on this vision, the project embarked on designing a system to produce sake through fermentation in space and creating a space for global communication. As a result, in November 2024, the beta version of the “Lunar Brewery” was launched in the metaverse.
About “Lunar Brewery”
The concept of the “Lunar Brewery” is to “recreate a brewery of 2040 in the present day.” This project aims to construct a virtual brewery in the metaverse, creating a space where people can gather and exchange value.
The space is designed to provide insights on lunar architecture and foster understanding of microbial production possibilities on the Moon when accessed through individual devices. As a lunar brewery, it plans to host virtual tours of future breweries, global conferences inviting people from around the world, and meetings related to distribution, all to be rolled out progressively. Additionally, the space is considering renting out its facilities for non-alcohol-related events.
