In a basketball coaching career spanning almost half a century, Herb Brown has built a strong reputation and accumulated a wealth of experience in the NBA and NCAA.

Among his numerous stops, his spell with the Japan women's national team wound up being a special time for him. During his tenure in 2013, the squad seized its first FIBA Asian Championship title in 43 years.

It was his first time officially coaching a women's team and was separated from his family in the United States, but Brown cherished those days as the advisory coach for Tomohide Utsumi's squad, which featured players like Yuko Oga, Asami Yoshida and Ramu Tokashiki.
