A 40-year-old man with impaired vision died Sunday when a limited express train hit him after he fell onto the tracks at a station in Osaka Prefecture, police said.
The man apparently fell onto the tracks while walking on the platform at Kawachi-Kokubu Station on the Kintetsu Railway Co.'s Osaka Line with two relatives soon after 11 a.m., police said.
According to the relatives, the man usually used a white cane when he went out but no cane was found at the scene of the accident.
Safety barriers have not been installed at the edge of the station's platform in the city of Kashiwara.
