Jun Ishikawa on Tuesday became the first Japanese independent expert to be elected to the United Nation's Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Blind for over 40 years, Ishikawa is chairman for the Committee on Disability Policy with the Cabinet Office.
He said he wants to raise awareness of the challenges people with disabilities face.
