JAL, ANA to reroute flights during North Korea rocket launch window

JIJI

All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines said Thursday that they are planning route changes for some flights between Monday and Feb. 25, due to a rocket launch planned by North Korea.

The route changes would affect three ANA flights a day, from Tokyo’s Haneda airport to Manila, from Manila to Narita International Airport near Tokyo, and from Jakarta to Narita, and two JAL flights, from Jakarta to Narita and from Narita to Manila.

The affected flights are expected to be delayed by five to 10 minutes, according to the airlines.

North Korea announced a plan to conduct what it claims to be a satellite launch between 7 a.m. and noon local time (10:30 p.m. the previous day and 3:30 a.m. GMT). The second stage of the rocket, considered a long-range ballistic missile, is expected to fall into waters off the Philippines.
