An Asiana Airlines jet from Seoul ran out of runway soon after a rough landing at Hiroshima airport Tuesday, the transport ministry and Hiroshima Prefectural Government said Tuesday.

Of the roughly 80 people on board, including the crew, 23 passengers sustained minor injuries, the local fire department said.

The plane, which landed at the airport in Mihara after 8 p.m., may have hit a communications facility near the runway, a source in the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry said.

The facility, used for wireless communication, stands about 6.4 meters high and was found to have taken damage. Scratches were also found on the aircraft's tail assembly.

Another source said the left wing was damaged and saw smoke coming out of its engine.

All of the people on board were evacuated by escape chute. Of the 74 passengers, 50 are believed to be South Korean and 24 Japanese, according to the police, who said they are investigating the accident.
