A 19-year-old U.S. serviceman was killed in a car crash in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, after the vehicle he was in hit a guardrail and fell about 4 meters, police said Sunday.

Alexander Markward, stationed at Misawa Air Base in Aomori Prefecture, was in the front passenger seat when the accident occurred on a straight section of road in the city of Hachinohe. He died on Saturday evening. The car was being driven by a 20-year-old serviceman.

The driver sustained minor injuries, the police said, adding they are investigating the details.

RIP Alexander, your service to the two amazing nations of America and Japan will NEVER be forgotten.
I don’t want to sound to dramatic, but I guarantee we will hear people getting angry about how reckless and careless the soldiers are because of this death.
I bet 5,000 yen on it.

I went to Basic Training with him, in less than two weeks it would have been our 1 year anniversary of graduating BMT. Rip Markward

Also the driver passed an alcoholic test they said.
And I don’t want to imagine what would have happened more if there were some local people or cars near the area, when they made an accident.
Please don’t make any collateral damage with locals as long as they’re supposed to be here not for making fun.
