NYC pick of Nissan for Yellow Cab hit

JIJI

New York City taxi operators have sued the city to challenge its decision to give Nissan Motor Co. exclusive rights to supply vehicles to the next-generation Yellow Cab fleet, it was learned Tuesday.

In the lawsuit, filed with a New York state court, the plaintiffs claim the city exceeded its authority by limiting the new taxi fleet to the Nissan model.

At present, some 13,000 vehicles are procured for the Yellow Cab fleet from nine manufacturers, including Ford Motor Co. of the United States and Toyota Motor Corp. Starting at the end of 2013, they will be gradually replaced by Nissan’s fuel-efficient NV200 minivan.
