Firm develops iPhone e-pay system

Computer device developer System Design Co. has developed a product that allows iPhone smartphones to make electronic payments.

All a user has to do is hold their iPhone over System Design’s ultrasonic transceiver, with details such as the cash amount displayed on the iPhone screen, officials from the Fukui-based company said.

Apple Inc.’s iPhone has no noncontact electronic money payment system such as the “osaifu keitai” mobile wallet that is increasingly being used in Japan at such outlets as convenience stores.
