Firms tap sludge for hydrogen gas

Japan Blue Energy Co. and its three partner firms said Monday they have launched a verification test for a system to produce hydrogen gas from sewage sludge.

The companies, including Daiwa Lease Co., Toyota Tsusho Corp. and Mitsui Chemicals Inc., hope the new sewage treatment system will facilitate hydrogen supply to stationary fuel cells and fuel-cell vehicles, which are expected to hit the market around 2015, the companies said.
