Fuji Xerox to repatriate output

JIJI

Fuji Xerox Co. plans to transfer production of some high-end digital printers to Japan from its unit in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China, within this year due to rising labor costs in the Chinese market, company sources said Wednesday.

Specifically, production of models priced at between ¥3 million and ¥5 million, which can print catalogs and flyers at high speeds, will be shifted to the firm’s Kashiwazaki plant in Niigata Prefecture, the sources said.

The Kashiwazaki plant has the same type of production lines as those at the Chinese factory, according to the sources. The production shift is expected help Fuji Xerox reduce costs substantially, the sources said.
