Minami Yamashiro, the region in the Kizu River basin area located in the southern part of Kyoto prefecture has many temples preserving the traditions of the Nara (710-794) and Heian (794-1185) periods.
Collected from more than 10 temples of the region, this exhibition will showcase about 140 cultural assets and archaeological remains including two national treasures, as well as paintings, statues, ceramics, and the famous eleven-headed Kannon statue as a highlight. The history, customs and the Buddhist culture of the region can be examined through these items; April 22-June 15.
