A followup to Takeshi Kitano's 1996 coming-of-age film "Kids Return," this 2013 drama by Kitano disciple Hiroshi Shimizu unfolds as its two rebellious protagonists are now facing 30. Shimizu has some of his mentor's stylistic mannerisms, such as the long cuts in the brutally realistic boxing scenes, but compared with the blackly humorous original, the new film is something of a slog. The April 25 Japan release features English subtitles.
