‘Kagi Dorobo no Method (Key of Life)’

by Mark Schilling

Director: Kenji Uchida

Language: Japanese (subtitled in English)

Kenji Uchida is known for his clever scripts, directed with a brisk pace and flawless comic timing, and his latest film, about a failing actor (Masato Sakai) who exchanges identities with a successful hit man (Teruyuki Kagawa), is no exception. Along with its brilliant puzzle plot, it brings home the limitlessness of human potential, if the right life-or-death pressure is supplied. The English-subbed DVD/stream by Film Movement comes with the short “Finale” by Hungarian filmmaker Balazs Simonyi.
