NHK president apologizes to Diet for series of scandals

Ebisawa, president of NHK Corp., apologized Thursday at the Diet over a series of scandals that have tainted the public broadcaster, including alleged embezzlement by a former chief producer.

Testifying before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications, Ebisawa promised to take action to prevent similar misdeeds and to restore public trust in NHK.

“I sincerely apologize for damaging the public trust. I vow to make an organization with high ethical values,” he claimed.
