'Backtrack': Haunted by other people's pasts
These days, according to a New York Times Opinionator article by Richard Brouillette (March 16, 2015), the psychotherapist's job is on shifting ground. Doctors are now dealing less with relationships and family problems and treating more patients suffering from workplace trauma and financial stress. Brouillette writes: "I see a lot of early and mid-career professionals coping with relentless email and social-media obligations, the erasing of work-life boundaries."

Sarik Andreasyan's thriller 'American Heist' falls short
'American Heist" is a bad movie with a glorious title. Think of the notables with "American" as a topper: "American Sniper," "American Beauty," "American Hustle," even "American Horror Story" had its merits. But "American Heist" takes a good, functional concept and turns it on its backside, not to mention throwing the performance capabilities of Oscar winner Adrien Brody into the mud. Either Armenian-born director Sarik Andreasyan has never seen a Quentin Tarantino film or heisting just isn't his thing. Most likely, both.

Paul Haggis: Spinning reality into a web of fiction
"Today, too often, we've gotten used to telling the audience things in bold, in all-caps or underlined, and solving everything for everybody." So says Paul Haggis, the screenwriter and director who won Oscars back-to-back with "Million Dollar Baby" in 2004 and "Crash" in 2005. His new film, "Third Person," is not told in "all caps" — it's an intense exploration of trust and betrayal, about trying to find something real; a film built on an intricate structure of interlocking stories.
