A government panel proposed Tuesday a number of measures to prepare for the possible return of abductees from North Korea, including the enactment of a special law to give them financial support.
The panel, consisting of section chief-level officials from various ministries, pointed out that abductees might wish to return to Japan with non-Japanese spouses and children born in North Korea, and their relatives in the North might wish to receive medical treatment here.
The government should provide financial support to the abductees and their family members in the North as well, the panel proposed.
