Crown Prince Naruhito said he was looking forward to bolstering ties with Switzerland as he prepared to depart for an official visit there this week.
"It is very significant to strengthen exchanges with Switzerland, which is known for its international humanitarian spirit and openness to the world," he said Friday at a news conference. The Crown Prince will arrive Tuesday and stay through Sunday.
His visit comes as the two countries celebrate the 150th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties. Crown Prince Naruhito is the honorary president of Japan's celebrations committee.
The Crown Prince said both countries share a recognized work ethic and are known for their industrial technology.
