Yahoo Japan Corp. launched a free service Thursday that sends evacuation advisories issued by local governments during storms, earthquakes, tsunami and volcanic eruptions to computers and smartphones.
Smartphone users who apply for the service will receive alerts on evacuation advisories either wherever they are, or in any of three pre-registered locations.
The information will also appear on the front page of the company’s smartphone site, as well as on the weather and disaster news pages of its main Internet site.
Yahoo Japan has so far signed disaster cooperation agreements with 110 local governments nationwide.
The company will also offer digital maps showing where evacuation shelters can be found in times of disaster.
