Chef Blanc gets France’s top honor

Celebrity chef Raymond Blanc on Thursday received France’s highest award, the Legion d’Honneur — five years after he was first honored by his adopted homeland, Britain.

The 63-year-old’s restaurant, Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons near the university town of Oxford, holds two Michelin stars, and his television shows have made him one of Britain’s best-known cooks.

But while he was awarded an honorary Order of the British Empire by the British government in 2008, his native France was slower to accord him official recognition.
