Italian reporters abducted: report

Italy’s Foreign Ministry said four Italian journalists were kidnapped in northern Syria, the ANSA news agency reported late Friday.

Italian authorities said they have been monitoring the case from the start but called for “maximum discretion,” insisting that “the physical safety of the hostages remains the absolute priority,” according to ANSA.

The La Repubblica newspaper’s website said the abducted were three freelance journalists and one reporter working for Italian public broadcaster RAI. The daily said the journalists were kidnapped “by a rebel group” while out filming.
