One man died and another was missing Monday after two Japanese fishing boats were involved in a collision with a Taiwan-registered containership in Osaka Bay.

The boats, which belong to a fishery cooperative in Osaka Prefecture, capsized after colliding with the 13,246-ton Wan Hai 162 around 6 a.m. about 5 km off Kansai International Airport.

Three of the four fishermen who fell overboard were rescued by nearby fishing boats, but one, Takahisa Masaki, 30, was later pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. Masahiro Minami, 30, was missing.

At the time of the collision, the two boats were tied together with a rope as they hauled in a net, the fishery cooperative said. The container vessel was on its way to Osaka port from Taipei.
