Softbank Mobile Corp. remained No. 1 in net subscriber growth for the seventh straight month in July, posting an increase of 221,700 clients, the Telecommunications Carriers Association said.
The increase was mainly due to the popularity of Apple Inc.’s iPhone, the association explained Tuesday.
NTT DoCoMo Inc. came in second with a net rise of 151,100 customers, aided by brisk sales of cellphone models released for the summer. KDDI Corp. and its au service was ranked third, with an increase of 48,500 subscribers, its lowest figure in some three years, the association said.
Although KDDI’s customer numbers were boosted by the popularity of the iPhone, there were some 10,000 automatic terminations because such services as its CDMA 1X became defunct at the end of July.
