Sompo loses data on 400,000 clients

Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. said Thursday two CD-ROMs containing data on some 400,000 clients have been lost.

The data include names of policyholders and information on their accounts related to savings-type insurance policies, the major nonlife insurer said. The CD-ROMs are believed to have been destroyed within the company by mistake, Sompo Japan officials said, claiming it is unlikely the data leaked outside the firm.
