Emperor to visit Norway in 2005

Japan and Norway agreed Wednesday to arrange a visit by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to Norway in 2005, when the two countries celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, a Japanese official said.

The plan was made during talks between Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi and her Norwegian counterpart, Jan Petersen, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

It would be the first time a Japanese emperor has visited Norway. Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visited the country in 1985, when they were crown prince and princess.
