Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corp. will start Friday providing Internet video services showing gymnastic exercises that can help the elderly avoid physical problems.

In the video, members of the idol group LinQ originating from Kyushu will engage in the exercises. The video feed will be distributed through TVs linked to the Internet.

NTT West created the video in cooperation with Kyushu University Hospital, hoping people will not suffer from "locomotive syndrome," with which old people would highly likely need nursing care because of backaches, arthralgia and osteoporosis.

With NTT West's Hikari Box system, which can be connected to the Internet and TV, people can look at the video for free.

The exercises have six levels. The telecommunications firm will also accept reservations in August for a charged plan, in which LinQ members visit local events to demonstrate the exercises.
