Seiko Epson Corp. will launch smart glasses April 24 that allow users to watch movies and browse the Internet.
The retail price for the Moverio BT-200 glasses is expected to be less than ¥70,000.
Epson has been focusing on developing smart glasses to take advantage of its advanced optical technology and electronic parts.
The glasses, an improved version of the BT-100 headset launched in 2011, weigh 88 grams and have 960 by 540 pixel display resolution.
With its optical see-through display, the Moverio BT-200 also allows users to keep an eye on their surroundings at the same time.
Seiko Epson is targeting sales of 50,000 units over the next three years.
The smart glasses are operated with a controller powered by Google Inc.’s Android operating system and have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
